Gveleti Waterfall
Two waterfalls in a side gorge of the Dariali Gorge, the larger about 25 to 30 m, a short hike north of Stepantsminda.
Gveleti Waterfall is in a narrow side valley of the Dariali Gorge, about 7 km north of Stepantsminda on the road toward the Russian border. Two falls lie about 750 m apart on the same trail. The Small Gveleti Waterfall comes first; the Big Gveleti Waterfall drops in two cascades from about 25 to 30 m into a rocky bowl. The trail starts near the bridge by the hamlet of Gveleti, at about 1,560 m.
The walk is short but steep in places, over stones and rough steps. A loop of 2.5 to 4 km takes about 1 to 2 hours at an easy pace. It is the easiest nature walk around Stepantsminda and a good choice for a half day or for families. Combine it with Dariali Monastery, about 4 km further north, on the same short trip.
