International Women's Day
A second spring day off in March, when women receive flowers and small gifts from colleagues and family.
Five days after Mother's Day, 8 March is another public holiday. It is a carry-over from the Soviet calendar and is celebrated with mimosa and tulips, cards and restaurant dinners. Offices close, though many shops and cafes stay open.
Early March is still cool in Tbilisi, often around 10 to 15 C by day, and snow lingers in the mountains, so this is a good time for city breaks and wine cellars rather than hiking.
- Many offices close; shops and restaurants generally open.
- Ski resorts are usually still running in early March.
