St Andrew the First-Called Day
A church holiday honouring the apostle who, by Georgian tradition, first brought Christianity to the country.
Georgian church tradition holds that the apostle Andrew preached in western Georgia in the 1st century, long before St Nino converted the royal court in the 4th. The day of his arrival is kept on 12 May with liturgies in churches named after him.
It has been a public holiday since 2017. Expect closed offices and normal opening hours at most sights.
- Most sights and shops stay open; government offices close.
